2002 Champions

Blue Leaves Competition Feeling Blue!

In their inaugural year in the HKSPSA Blue Sphere (currently Hong Kong Brew House) went all the way to the finals.  In their second year of existence they won it all!  Started by Dominick Martinetti in 2000 Blue Sphere quickly learned how to get a lead and turn the game over to their dominant pitcher Dave Wand.  Wand stood about 5'6" and threw the ball about 40' 6" high!!  The Blue Sphere recipe was simple- have Mark Prebich and Doug Foster knock in Chris Rork a couple of times and turns the game over to Wand who would induce ground balls to 3B Tony Bego or fly balls to LF Eddie Guillemette!  They worked this recipe like a charm!

Far from intimidating Blue Sphere suffered an early round loss to Planet Hollywood (current day Sportview) 3-2.  Relegated to the losers bracket, they would have to win three games in one day just to make it to the finals where they would have to defeat their opponent twice to win the championship.  As fate would have it they did it!  In the finals against LA Café (current day The Keg) little known Russ Barling Scored on an overthrow to third in the 7th inning, giving Blue a lead they wouldn't relinquish.  Solid pitching, timely hitting and strong camaraderie were all the hallmarks of Blue's first championship!
