December 1st was our final full Saturday of games for the year, and the "Big Three" showed dominance as usual. Milbank, Brew House, and The Big Bite crushed their opponents as they have all season long. They stand a comfortable distance from the rest of the league, but quite close to one another in the standings.
The weekend of Dec8 saw the HKSPSA represented (TEAM HONG KONG) in the inaugural Tussle in Taipei tournament. We didn't take home any hardware but it was great to see a new event kick off so close to home.
On Dec15, Morty's and Milbank ended the calendar year with a makeup doubleheader. Milbank swept Morty's to improve to 16-4. The December Players of the Week were two MVP candidates in Chris Angelosante of Brew House and Liam O'Hagan of Milbank.
November was a big month, consisting of 32 regular season games on four full Saturdays. At the month's end, Brew House was atop the rankings, with an impressive 14-2 record. Milbank was #2 at 12-4, followed by defending champs The Big Bite at 11-5. By almost every statistical measure, these three teams are the elite squads of the HKSPSA at this time.
The Players of the Week were as follows: Nick DeMarinis (Starr), Chris Burling (Morty's), Cory Catelli (Alvy's), Troy Decoff (The Big BIte) and Rich Granara (Brew House).
Additionally, from Nov16-18, the HK Turkeys competed in the second Pattaya Beach Softball Showcase. No hardware this year but the boys played hard and won a big elimination game to advance to the second round. Gobble gobble!
October consisted of three full Saturdays of games and the 9th Annual Chad Boyd Tournament on the 27th.
CBT this year consisted of four strong squads, with Gashouse defeating DFIU in the Finals--breaking up the Turkeys reign as back to back tourney champion. Ryan Kirchner and Steve Atack captained the winning team, with Atack capturing MVP honors thanks to his pinpoint pitching in the final game. Always great to see mixed teams competing in this one day competition!
The Player of the Week honors were awarded to Chris Angelosante of Brew House (Oct6), Eric Mueller of Brew House (Oct13) and Andrew Weich of The Big BIte (Oct20).
